Why celebrants are like marmite

What toast spread is the most often reached for in your breakfast cupboard?
In our house that’s Marmite. In yours it might be honey or peanut butter or even Vegemite (if you must). And to get to the point asap, celebrants are like Marmite because the more popular the spread (or celebrant), the less likely they are to be available when you reach for them.
In case that’s a little subtle - if the celebrant who you feel is the best fit for you is a super popular one in your area, book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. Having a peanut butter celebrant when you’re a die hard honey fan could be a bit of a downer!
Now I’m not going to tell you Marmite is the best toast spread ever, the end, no argument. Because while that’s true in our house, it might not be in yours. Just like a celebrant who would be a great fit for me and my husband, should we ever get around to renewing our vows, might not be the best fit for you on your wedding day. When it comes to celebrants (and toast spreads) it’s not about what’s BEST but about what’s BEST FOR YOU.
That’s why it’s important to get a feel for who a celebrant is before booking. Maybe for you reading through a celebrant’s website to gauge their style is all the convincing you need, maybe you’d like to meet over a coffee or chat via video call. Wherever you fit on that spectrum it’s all good, we’re totally okay with that!
All of us in Celebrants Collective New Zealand are friends. We support each other, we eat and drink (and talk about eating and drinking) together, we fill in for each other, we recommend each other when we’re already booked. We each have our own slightly different ways of doing things but to continue the toast spread analogy we’re more like different types of jams than completely different spreads. At the heart of the professional service each of us provides is the belief that we should be inclusive to all, do your wedding your way, with much love and have fun while we do it.
I don’t think you can make a bad choice amongst us, but who is best FOR YOU, is ultimately just like choosing a toast spread. It’s all about personal preference.
So peruse the shelves, have a little taster and whoever you choose as your celebrant, congratulations and happy planning!
